Ham, Eggs, Grits and Cheese

Ham, Eggs, Grits and Cheese

How many of a morning have I spent with these?
In quiet contemplation at my home,
Or in some crowded urban luncheonette alone
A cup of coffee with some milk to wash them down

Ham, Eggs, Grits and Cheese

A hearty company of flavors sure to please
Too often now of them I did partake
At times forsaking ham for sausage, hash, or steak
With every season seemed I’d gained another pound

No longer easily up the stairs to sprightly bound
And harder still to tie my shoes each day I found
Gone are the days when I might carry on with ease
My love affair with Ham and Eggs and Grits and Cheese
