The Needle in Your Arm

How cruel!, the world around you,
a child so scared, defenseless,
would naturally seek a friend who,
assured that it would hurt less.
So eagerly embraced,
a blanket soft and warm.
All pain and fear erased,
the needle in your arm.

Time passed and you grew older.
The world became no better,
The armor on your shoulder,
now gripped you like a fetter.
It ruled you by the hour,
Like some alchemic charm.
Kept fast within it’s power,
the needle in your arm.

At last you seek to sever,
this cruel, consuming, master.
Who leads you downward ever
to horror and disaster.
It drags you through the land,
your eyes wide with alarm.
Nailed to it’s rotten hand,
the needle in your arm
